Quincy, Florida -- December 16, 2010 --

Gadsden County Chairperson Sherrie Taylor, Commissioner District 5 celebrated the re-opening of Drake Acres Park with members of the community by her side on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Drake Acres Park received a $136,000 face lift.

“The park property was not a safe place for children to play, or a welcome place for the community to meet, thank God we received funding through the state to improve this gem for the community,” stated Chairperson Taylor.

The renovations included new walking area, playground unit, and picnic facilities. Also, the basketball court was fully renovated and resurfaced.

“Parks are a perfect way to connect communities,” states Chairperson Taylor. “We need to take care of our children and families by providing safe and holistic places for them to play and socialize.”

The Drake Acres Project was made available through grant funds received through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program.
