Gadsden County, Florida - June 18, 2012 - Noon -
Jobless numbers in Florida dropped last month, but it seems to be a mixed bag of results for our area.
In May, the unemployment rate in Florida dropped a tenth of a percentage point to 8.6%. That number is actually the rate in Gadsden County for the same month, but that's up two tenths of a point for the county compared to April.
The good news for Gadsden is that 8.6% unemployment is a full percent lower than this time last year. Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent, but federal officials say that's mostly because people stopped looking for work and, to be counted in the unemployment figure, someone has to be actively job hunting.
