While you're thinking of other- some may be only thinking of themselves by setting up a bogus charity and pocketing all of the money.
Most charities could make up to 50 % of their annual take during just these 2 months- but are you giving, or being ripped off?
Liz Compton with the Dept. of Agriculture says, "Some of the red flags are; if it's a real emotional sales pitch and they don't want to give you time to check them out. If they say leave it under the door mat and we'll come and get it. Big red flag. A lot of bogus charities will use practically the same name, just a little bit off."
How the money you donate is money is being spent is another issue. Records that show how much is going to the cause compared to administrative pay and fundraising is made public.
