MIAMI (AP) --

Gov. Rick Scott says he's reallocating state transportation funds to pay the full $77 million cost of a dredging project in Miami so larger ships can enter the port.

The Republican governor made the announcement Friday in Miami.

Scott said, who ran on a job creation platform last year, said
the project would result in 30,000 new jobs.

The governor's office did not immediately explain where the
money will come from.

Scott made the announcement shortly after formally rejecting
$2.4 billion in federal money for an Orlando-Tampa high-speed rail
line that was expected to create at least 24,000 jobs.

He was joined for the announcement by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and
U.S. Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart and David Rivera, all South Florida
Republicans.

South Florida is the largest tax contributor to the state. So of course they should get the lions share of tax revenue. No one in NY state is complaining that the majority of their taxes pay for the NYC port. Politically this makes 0 sense for him since Alex Sink killed him in South Florida and South Florida is overwhelmingly liberal.

DTH, It is not the Governments job to fund new businesses. Go look for private investors. If they do not want to invest in your business, maybe it is not a sound business plan.

they need too dredge up some oil while their at it to make gas for us in fl and maybe gov should take $$$ offered by the feds and do what's necessary to lower gas taxes/prices and gouging in fl...but, warning, don't ever really spend money before it becomes available. That's the main reason why this country's sinking.

So this idiot is against monitoring drug prescriptions but he is FOR leading the way for more drugs to come into the state?? I apologize to everyone for voting for this imbicle. He is cutting jobs left and right, letting more drugs into the state and it is an "invasion" of a persons privacy to monitor their drug consumption. I think he is on drugs!!
