Tallahassee, FL - The American Pharmacists Association and the Florida Pharmacy Association declared October American Pharmacists Month, highlighting the theme Know Your Medicines-Know Your Pharmacists. Governor Charlie Crist on Friday, October 1, 2010 joined in observing October 2010 as American Pharmacist Month through an official proclamation where he urged Floridians to acknowledge the valuable services of pharmacists to all citizens.
“What started off in 2004 as an annual week recognition has become an annual month recognition,” said Michael Jackson, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Florida Pharmacy Association. “Pharmacists play a pivotal role in the health care industry and we have seen the profession moving away from the “typical” perceived role of counting and dispensing pills, to a clinical based setting providing patient care on a more one-to-one basis.”
In signing the proclamation, Governor Crist acknowledged today’s powerful medications require greater attention to the manner in which they are used by various patient population groups- both clinically and demographically.
Jackson added, “We thank Governor Crist for observing October 2010 as American Pharmacist Month and look forward to sharing with Floridians the good work pharmacists provide to ensure safe, affordable and beneficial pharmaceutical care services and products to patients.”
The Florida Pharmacy Association represents pharmacists throughout Florida and provides representation at the state and national level on pharmacy related issues.
