Attempted Burglary in Area Prompted Hawks Rise Lockdown

[UPDATE] Tallahassee, Florida - March 27, 2012 - 1:56pm

A Tallahassee Police officer says two people tried to break into a home on Borderline Drive in the Ox Bottom neighborhood. The homeowner was there and the suspects got away on foot. TPD tried tracking them with K9s but they haven't found suspects. The home is located on a street behind Hawks Rise Elementary. TPD alerted Hawks Rise about the crime and the school voluntarily locked down.

The head of school resource officers for Leon County Schools confirms that Hawks Rise Elementary School was on lockdown while police investigated a break-in on Borderline Drive.

From the principal at Hawks Rise:

We were notified by the Tallahassee Police Department via our school district’s Safety and Security Office that there was criminal activity in the Hawks Rise neighborhood. We immediately ensured all students were safe indoors and placed the school on lockdown. All of our students are safe and were provided lunch. As soon as the Tallahassee Police Department gave our Safety and Security Office the all clear, we resumed our normal school activities. As always, we appreciate your support and trust in knowing that your children’s safety is our number one priority.

All clear given. Lockdown is over. Cause was nearby criminal activity. Normal school activities resumed.

An official at Hawks Rise Elementary School in Tallahassee says that the school is under lockdown at this time. No other information has been released.

    If they were black, you better not try to stand your ground. They will have a national protest and throw you in jail and have a special legislation done to change the laws so they can do so legally. If they are black., you better just give them your stuff.

    Lockdown? When I was a child a school wasn't boarded up when something occurred near the school. A bit excessive. Why believe that a burglary suspect would attack a school?

    Lock them all up. What is the price of a good nights sleep. Heck you cant even take an afternoon nap in a nice area these days. Make the judicial system a deterant.

    Who is saying crime rate is down? If these Burglars, Robbers, etc were in prison there would be less crime and prison beds not empty. I remember the day my parents left the door open for me at night and slept with windows open. Not anywhere does that happen now!

    Thank you to local police and Hawks Rise for handling this in a responsible and safe manner however I would like to see a description of the suspects.

    Yep, the criminal would become a innocent victim while the innocent victim would be a criminal if they took the law in the own hands
