Tallahassee, FL - A Highlands County commissioner charged
in the drunken boating death of his wife has been suspended from
office.

Gov. Charlie Crist suspended Jeffrey Dwayne Carlson on Monday.
Prosectors previously charged Carlson with boating under the
influence manslaughter and vessel homicide.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports
that Julie Carlson died of severe head injuries in July after the
boat her husband was operating hit a channel marker near Sebastian,
in Indian River County. Authorities say Jeffrey Carlson's
blood-alcohol level was above 0.08 percent, the legal limit to
operate a boat or vehicle in Florida.

A phone message left at Carlson's office was not immediately
returned.
