During 2010, more than a dozen of our neighbors and friends passed away while homeless in our community. To remember and honor those we lost, a candlelight vigil and memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. The service will begin at 5:30PM at Lake Ella near the gazebo.

The memorial service, which is coordinated by the Homeless Speakers Bureau, is an annual event, traditionally held on the first day of winter. Participating in this year’s service will be Pastor Brant Copeland of the First Presbyterian Church, representatives of the Homeless Veterans program at the Big Bend Homeless Coalition, the Homeless Speakers Bureau, and Jeff Franck, the manager of the Big Bend Homeless Coalition’s cold night shelter. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

The community is invited to attend to remember those who have passed away while homeless, and to bring attention to the continuing struggles of those who are without homes in our community.
