House Divided- Living With the Other Team

It's a rare but serious condition. Side effects include taunting, name calling, excessive celebration, and embarrassment.

We're talking about House Divided Disorder or HDD. The symptoms show their true colors every weekend after Thanksgiving ... especially between spouses on opposite sides of the field.

Greta Sliger and Mark Mustain say, "We usually have a bet going on. This year it's that he's going to have to wear a Lyon cloth."
She bleeds Garnet and Gold while he's got gator fever.
"Fortunately Mark had other attributes, good ones. So they over rode the fact that, you know, he was decked out in blue and orange." Greta says.

While some would call it a deal breaker- this married couple call it a law of nature- opposites attract.

BUT - theirs isn't the only household suffering from HDD. You may remember the Medcalf's from a very bold house paint job back in 2006.

Lisa and Drew Medcalf first met at 'Choke at DOAK' in '94 and are celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary this year. They say every couple has a remedy for HDD. "It goes back to keeping the rules. Supporting your own team as loudly as you want. Wearing your school colors, but not saying anything ugly about the other team."

"Marriage is long and you have to make it through.' in spite of everything, it is just a football game. There are more important things in life. Not too many more but..."

The FSU - UF game kicks off Saturday at 3:30pm.

I have to agree with Billo I wouldn't marry a gator either ! I have friends that are gators but when the season comes we don't discuss football. Could I ever live in the "house divided" NO !! my husband and kids are NOLES and kids will attend school in Tally my parents are Noles !! It's just a family thing ! & UFR should stay far away from Tally !! The gator haters live big here if you can't hack it go back to gatorville ! Who would want to go to UF for anything all that orange & blue is nausiating !! GO NOLES ~~

Billo, really? It's clear you are an FSU alum, because UF ranks higher in every academic category... with the exception of drunken goofs (see mirror). Guess you couldn't get in to UF, so you settled for FSU/TCC.

Reading this story, i think people need to get there priorities straight. I would have never married my wife if she was a Gator, and vice versa. Our daughter understands she will NOT attend any college to the South, as both her parents are FSU Alums. None of mama and daddys money will be going to any dump to the south.

The people in the story are NEWLYWEDS. Our family has 2 longterm HDD marriages. My wife matriculated as a Gator in 1954, I was a transfer Nole in 1955 and we married in 1956. Our daughter is an 1982 Gator who married a 1973 Nole in 1989. Our son is a 1985 Nole and one of our grandsons is a senior Gator (2011?) One other thing, we ALL live in Tallahassee.
