Lofty Pursuits Press Release
Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984. He also appointed the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day.
Reagan recognized the popularity of ice cream in the United States (90% of the nation's population consumes ice cream) and stated that these two events should be observed with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."
Lofty Pursuits, Tallahassee's soda fountain will be hosting an ice cream eating contest at 2pm on Sunday the 21st. Winners will get gift
$100 worth of certificates from Lofty Pursuits. The event will be judged by head Jerk Gregory Cohen, owner of Lofty Pursuits.
The NY Times commented on Mr. Cohen's knowledge of soda fountains that he is "probably the country's leading expert on the institution." Lofty Pursuits will also be celebrating the day with specials on their ice cream sodas, the pinnacle of soda fountain cuisine.
The Lofty Pursuits portable soda fountain will be set up under the pavilion at Market Square and the contest is open to all.
