Tallahassee, FL (AP) - Republican lawmakers from Port Richey
and Miami have been named to key assignments in the new Florida
House that meets later this month for the first time.
Speaker-designate Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, on Friday chose
Rep. John Legg of Port Richey as speaker pro tempore and Rep.
Carlos Lopez-Cantera, of Miami, as majority leader. The speaker pro
tempore frequently presides during floor debate when the speaker is
Cannon had earlier chosen Rep. Denise Grimsley of Lake Placid as
the new House appropriations chair and Rep. Gary Aubuchon of Cape
Coral as rules chair.
\ Republicans captured a two-third majority in the House in
Tuesday's election when they added five more seats to their
majority, which is now 81-39.
