MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities are trying to determine whether the fatal shooting of an intruder attempting to steal a wave runner outside a Miami waterfront home was justified.

Miami-Dade police say an unidentified juvenile armed with a shotgun shot 20-year-old Reynaldo Munoz in the head Saturday afternoon outside his family's home.

A police affidavit says Munoz parked outside a marina, put his own watercraft in the water and navigated it to the home.

Police say Munoz was confronted by the teen as he attempted to
take the family's wave runner.

His 19-year-old girlfriend Carolina Lopez told police she was waiting for Munoz to return with the watercraft, which they planned to sell for $2,000. She is charged with felony murder for her participation in a crime that caused the death of another.

The Castle Doctrine does not allow for shooting over property. Unless the news has not divulged all of the elements of this killing, simply at the story's face value, the shooter should be charged with murder, and no less than manslaughter. Property has no value in justifying killing someone, ever.

Kill a young child over material possessions?? I am a gun owner myself but never would I kill someone over simple material things that can be replaced. Taking of life should only happen when protecting ones own life or that of their family or another person. This was not a home invasion. I cannot believe you think it to be Christian to kill someone over simple property. This person was clearly no threat to anyone's life at that moment. Sure, he was a thief and would possibly eventually threaten life over something he wanted, but let the bullet stay chambered until he does this.

I agree. Things can be replaced; lives can not. I am not against guns, but I think this was wrong.

Good for the homeowner for upholding the castle doctrine and protecting his home. This is what should happen to ALL thieves. Praise the Lord for He helps those who help themselves.
