Jefferson County Schools officially announced Gloria Norton as their 2011-2012 District Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent Bill Brumfield and other school board officials recognized Norton as District Teacher of the Year at a ceremony on Monday afternoon. She has worked at the Jefferson County Middle/High School for 38 years and she says her passion for working with children is her motivation in the school system.

Norton says, "It's my passion so I figure if I could make a difference in one student's life in a year then it's all worth it."

Norton will now go on and compete in the Regional Teacher of the Year in Orlando.

Congratulations Ms. Norton. As a former student who left your class with exceptional skills in English and went on to college to excel in that subject, I beleive you deserve the credit you are getting. I do not believe the problem with the school system in Jefferson County is the teachers. A lot of it can be directly related to the home environment. When I was in school, more was expected of you and my parents demanded excellence and no less. Ms. Norton was an excellent teacher who cared about her students. She was always tough on us and I am glad that she set such a high standard for her students! So thank you Ms. Norton for all you have done for so many over the years! There are so MANY successful people in the world today thanks to your efforts!

Congratulations Gloria. To bring back memories, I am the late Rev. Bradley's grandaughter who played for the church many years ago. May God Bless and again, CONGRATULATIONS.
