Jefferson County Woman Fights Off Burglar

2.23.2011 by Julie Montanaro

A Jefferson County woman confronts an intruder at her family's home on Thompson Valley Road.

According to Sheriff David Hobbs, it happened at about 3am. He says the woman, who happens to be a correctional officer at the Jefferson County Jail, was staying at a family home just north of I-10.

Hobbs said she heard glass breaking and went out to investigate and confronted a skinny white man. Hobbs says the two got into a scuffle, but the burglar ultimately ran off.

He says deputies and dogs did not have any luck finding him.

Hobbs says there is no reason to believe the woman was targeted because she was a correctional officer. He says the home is often vacant and the man probably thought he was breaking into an unoccupied house.

More of the same old chest-beating from a bunch of wanna-be vigilantes who are publically just itching to gun some "thug" down. Funny how we never hear about any thugs actually being shot by these citizen heros. Wonder why?

I'd have beat the living stew outta him too if he'd have come busting up into my house. Make it so not even his mama could recognize him. Country women ain't scared to fight back so ya'll better watch out before you get smacked up side the head!

I agree with Anonymous here; Dog, you may not get out much but, Yes, you are mistaken that Leon don't protect themselves with guns. We do, especially those of us who live in the county where we all know it would take the Law 45 min. to help us. The robber could have already robbed us, raped us, kidnapped us, killed us and fled, and Neighbor Crime Watch is a joke. Don't count on them either, save your self cause nobody else can. Home invaders who attach us in our yard planting flowers or enter our home no mater what time of day/night you will be met with lead, and if you want to break in a steal our guns, think again, you will be met with lead. A dozen of my friends who live in pretiegous city neighborhoods have armed themselves with Guns and training courses. Sad for the kid who gets killed because he thinks he needs to steal to suvive, that is shot by residents who did not want to shot him, but had no other choice, cause the Victim/Res would naturaly believe more harm would come.

Lady has a gun -- just too nice to use it. Not the way I would do it, but it was her call, and who is to say she was wrong?

Dog you're dumb!! Clearly you know nothing about Leon county, someone breaks into my house I got something for them!

This Fool was lucky breaking into the ONLY house in Jefferson co. where the owner doesn't have a GUN. Better go to Leon where ONLY Thug's have Guns, Better yet go to FSU Campus you can steal and won't get SHOT, or caught.
