A registered sex offender is now off the grid.
Leon county deputies say he moved out and his car is gone and this is not the first time he's failed to register.
Steven Coggins is a registered sex offender convicted of luring a teenager to his home and performing sex acts.
His registered address is a home on Crowder Loop in northwest Tallahassee, but deputies now say they can't find him and neighbors are uneasy.
"It makes you worry about how the sex offenders are being tracked, as a mother of three it makes you think about that kind of stuff," neighbor Amber Hernandez said.
SGT Steve Norville checks on more than 500 sex offenders in Leon County. He makes surprise visits at as many addresses as he can every day.
He noticed Coggins car was gone and would soon discover he had moved out weeks earlier.
"I went and checked with the manager and found out that he had moved out about three weeks earlier," Norville said, "no electricity's on. I talked to his employer and he had been fired from his job and I can't find him," Norville said.
FDLE records show Coggins has disappeared before. He was sent to prison for failing to register in 2009. He got out in 2012 and Norville says he's been compliant - including registering twice a year - ever since. Until now.
"Its just insane, if he's able to do this kind of stuff more than once," Hernandez said.
"Anytime you have a sex offender out I think you need to be concerned about your own safety as well as the safety of your children. If they do see him or see his car then immediately call law enforcement and let us take care of him and put hiim in jail," Norville said.
Deputies say Coggins drives a 2008 black lexus with Florida license plate 730-PF.
Norville says he has been spotted in town as recently as last week.
