Tallahassee, FL - On October 27, 2010 at approximately 4:00 am, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary alarm at the Seminole Shell Gas Station located at 1610 West Tennessee Street. When they arrived, deputies discovered a broken window on the front of the business. Deputies and owners reviewed the store’s video surveillance and learned that the burglar had injured himself while making his entry into the store and had taken a twelve pack of beer once inside.
Deputies broadcast a description of the suspect observed on the video and soon learned that Tallahassee Police Officers attempted to make contact with a man fitting the description at 1010 Basin
Street.
When the man fled from the officers, TPD and LCSO established a perimeter and TPD deployed a K-9.
Joseph Nimis, 27, was located in the 900 block of West Brevard Street and taken into custody. He was positively identified by deputies as the same man who had just broken into the Seminole Shell Gas
Station.
Nimis was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he was treated for the injuries he sustained during the burglary. He was later released and taken to the Leon County Jail.
Nimis was charged with burglary of a structure and petit theft.
