With an Elvis impersonator standing outside, you could tell this wasn't going to be your typical County Commissioner forum. The Capital Tiger Bay club held the event for incumbent Akin Akinyemi and his three challengers; Emily Fritz, Mary Ann Lindley, and Fred Varn.

"We have four remarkable people running for this race, but what people need to consider is have I done a good job as a first time incumbent," said incumbent Akin Akinyemi.

Each candidate was given five minutes to address the club as to why they would be a good fit for Akinyemi's at-large seat 1 for Leon County.

"We've had budget shortfalls for three consecutive years, and we need a business woman and a fiscal conservative on the county commission who will watch taxpayer dollars," said candidate Emily Fritz.

"I know this community inside out and backwards, I can bring a lot of knowledge, a lot of awareness to this board," said candidate Mary Ann Lindley.

One member of the audience asked about the Civic Center itself. Fred Varn was the only one who said he wouldn't have given it to FSU.

"The civic center's only been in a deficit six out of 31 years, and only 200,000 dollars and I say only, but that was over the last couple of years and that was the worst recession we've ever had," said Varn,

Voters can head to the poll on August 14th.
