Bainbridge, GA - June Faircloth knows the pain of losing a child all too well. Her son Dylan was killed in a car wreck back in july 2010. He was only eighteen years old.
"I was just devastated. I wasn't able to work. Everything from my income to emotionally; just absolutely not knowing what to do with my life and there was nobody there to help me," Faircloth said.
Faircloth says after watching far too many other families lose their children, she knew she had to find way to help.
"They need it desperately," she said. "There's just not enough support in the grief realm of people who have walked that walk."
That led to Faircloth establishing, "The Compassionate Friends Of Southwest Georgia." The local chapter is now one of 650 throughout the country.
"The one thing about 'Compassionate Friends' is, you can't even attend the meetings or be a part of it unless you are a parent, grandparent of sibling to a deceased child and that makes all the difference. It puts you in a whole different category."
Faircloth says the meetings will be held at her business, Interior Specialist in Bainbridge. She says they will be very informal and led by a steering committee, with folks from all different backgrounds who share at least one thing in common; Grief.
"Sometimes it's just to come and meet somebody else that you can contact at others times in need," she said. "It's just strictly for us to get together and socialize and support eachother."
The first meeting will be held Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. The address of Interior Specialist is: 1314 Dothan Road, Bainbridge, GA.
Faircloth says meetings will then be held the second Thursday of each month.
