Leon County, Florida - March 25, 2011 --
Members of the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, along with local leaders, will meet with members of the Ft. Braden Community to discuss Blountstown Highway (Highway 20) road safety and other issues. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Ft. Braden Elementary School Gymnasium, located at 16387 Blountstown Highway.
District 2 Commissioner Jane Sauls said there have been multiple deaths in the past few years, all in a very congested area on Highway 20, between Joe Thomas East and Joe Thomas West.
“Members of the community are looking to all of us for answers that would make this area safer for cars and for the school kids who walk along the highway to and from school,” said Commissioner Sauls. “Some have to wait in very dark areas while waiting on the school bus.”
Sen. Bill Montford, School Superintendent Jackie Pons, Sheriff Larry Campbell, School Board Member Maggie Lewis-Butler and representatives from the Department of Transportation, Talquin Electric, Florida Highway Patrol and the Tallahassee Fire Department are scheduled to take part in Tuesday’s discussions.
