News Release: Madison County Sheriff's Office
SCAM ALERT (April 10, 2014)
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart wants all citizens to be aware of the most recent “SCAM” originating in the South Florida area but now citizens of Madison County are experiencing the same.
This most recent “SCAM” involves an alleged company “Toll Enforcement LLC” That in fact does not exist, sending fraudulent notices to motorists in an attempt to collect unpaid tolls. Citizens are receiving a letter that is being circulated by Toll Enforcement, LLC that says ‘Final Warning Notice’ and proceeds to ask the recipient to immediately pay outstanding toll amounts.
The notices started being received by Madison County residents as recent as last week and directing recipients to send a cashier’s check or money order for $57 to an address near Doral to cover outstanding tolls of $7 – plus a $50 fee. The letter also warns that the payment must be made or the owner faces immobilization of the vehicle, suspension of their driver’s license or additional fees of $500.
Sheriff Stewart reminds motorists that toll violations or warnings from the department will be printed in official document form and will prominently feature the date, time and location of the alleged infraction as well as a photo of the vehicle passing through a toll plaza.
