Associated Press Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a 94-year-old Daytona Beach man suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after a thief took off in his car.
Police say Vittario Vecchiarelli pulled into his driveway Thursday and left his car running while he went to get his mail. That's when a pickup truck pulled up, a man got out and jumped into Vecchiarelli's 2003 Chevy Cavalier and sped off.
Police say he tried to chase after the vehicle and was dragged about 100 feet.
WESH-TV (http://bit.ly/17UmiHR ) reports police found the car early Friday a few blocks away. The suspects have not been located.
Neighbors say found on Vecchiarelli on his driveway. He died about 30 minutes later at the hospital.
Police Chief Mike Chitwood says the victim "wouldn't have died if they didn't steal his car."
