A 69-year-old Crawfordville man drowned while swimming at Shell Point Beach Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 2:08 p.m., according to Wakulla County Sheriff Charlie Creel.
William Norman McLeod was spending time with a friend when he went into the water. The friend turned away for five minutes and discovered McLeod floating in the water as he turned back toward the surf.
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation was performed on the victim by individuals on the beach as well as by WCSO Deputy Vicki Mitchell and Wakulla EMS, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
CPR was performed on the victim for 34 minutes before he was declared deceased at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital at 2:41 p.m. An autopsy is planned for the victim on Oct. 2.The drowning may have been caused by a previous medical condition as no signs of foul play were observed.
Detective Randy Phillips and Lt. Jimmy Sessor also investigated.
