SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) -- A man who fatally punched the manager a southwest Florida restaurant has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
A Sarasota County judge sentenced 20-year-old Juan De Dios Rodriguez on Tuesday after he pleaded no contest to manslaughter.
Authorities say Rodriguez and two friends ate at the New Dynasty Chinese Buffet in July but then left without paying their $35 bill. The manager, 51-year-old Taian "Andrew" Tian chased after the group, but Rodriguez punched Tian, causing him to fall in the parking lot and strike his head. Officials say Tian later died from the head trauma.
The Herald-Tribune (http://goo.gl/ZAHYdD ) reports that Rodriguez was already on probation for firearm conviction at the time of the attack. He was sentenced last month to 15 years for the probation violation.
His sentences will run concurrently.
