The victim in today’s shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Brandon Lee Klatt of Deerfield, Michigan. Mr. Klatt died of his self-inflicted injuries at Shand’s at Lake Shore Hospital at 10:58 a.m.

A suicide note was found in Mr. Klatt’s pockets written to his family which also told law enforcement where he parked his vehicle; a mile north in the Popeye’s parking lot.

It is unclear how Mr. Klatt ended up in Lake City, but investigators are in communication with the family to gather more information as to what led to the shooting and his trip out of Michigan. Mr. Klatt was in American Pawn the day before the shooting, but did not look at any firearms that day.

The family was notified in Michigan of this tragic event by the Lenawee County Sherriff’s Office this afternoon.

Chief Argatha Gilmore said, “This is a very tragic incident to occur in our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Klatt family in Michigan for the loss of their son and loved one, and also to the employees of American Pawn who witnessed this young man take his life.”
