Man Charged With Throwing Cat from Balcony

Panama City Beach, FL (AP) - A Louisiana man reportedly threw
his roommate's cat off a sixth-floor balcony in Panama City Beach,
killing the animal.
The roommate reportedly called police Sunday night, saying
26-year-old Bobby Dewayne Johnson, of Baton Rouge, had been chasing and throwing the cat around the condo following a fight at Grand
Panama Beach Resort. When the roommate tried to intervene, he told
police Johnson hit him and then continued to chase the cat.
As the roommate spoke with officers in the parking lot, police
say the tabby came flying off the balcony, landing near the group.
Police immediately went up to the room and arrested Johnson,
charging him with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor battery.
The Bay County jail would not release bond information about
Johnson.

Anon, you either miss my point entirely or didn't read what I said. I'm not commenting on whether or not this particular man might harm a child. I'm commenting on how ironic it is that so many readers can get so worked up over someone killing a cat, while many in our nation seem to think it's perfectly OK to kill an unborn human. That's my point: We live in a country where the death of a cat gets more sympathy than the death of thousands of unborn human beings that occur every day. Hopefully that's a little plainer.

jm you have't read through all of the comments or you would have caught the ones wondering if he would be one to also harm a child.

I'm sure many of you will be quite unappreciative of me saying this, but as I read through these comments a particular thought came to mind: If this guy did what he is accused of, then he's obviously guilty of something disgusting and reprehensible. But......I wonder whether those so horribly offended and aghast over this man's cruelty toward a cat are equally appalled at the thousands of unborn humans extinguished each and every day in this country? There's something profoundly perverted about a society that excoriates a man over killing a cat or conducting dog fights, but then frames the issue of human abortion in terms of the degree to which a child might or might not impede his parents' own self indulgent futures. Just a thought.

The probability that the cat jumped or fell while being chased is negligable. When cats are terrorized, they typically back up to something solid and come out fighting. I imagine the suspect has rather severe scratches and possibly bites. Unless he calmed the animal enough to trick it into being picked up and carried to the balcony. Possible. Either way, doesn't it just make all your hair stand on end to imagine that you could pass a maniac like this in the grocery store? Or while buying a soda? Or find him standing next to you in your favorite bar?

For the people who responded to this story below, how can you joke about this cruelty? Can you, for just one moment, imagine the fear the cat felt? So horrible. I can't believe there are people out there like this.

so, They saw the cat come from the balcony, but did they actually see the guy throw the cat? If he was chasing the cat, is it possible the cat either jumped or fell?
