Lakeland, Florida (AP) --
Authorities say a man has been critically injured after being shot outside a central Florida bakery.
Police were called to the Wonder Hostess bakery outlet in
Lakeland Wednesday evening (Oct. 13). Investigators say a man and his girlfriend had committed a burglary at the bakery and placed
pastries and other bread items in their vehicle.
Sgt. Terri Smith says the suspect then cut open the vinyl roof
of a Corvette, triggering the alarm. The owner of the vehicle,
Toney Anthony Price, exited the building and got into an
altercation with the man.
Lakeland police say Toney Anthony Price exited the building
after the alarm for his car went off. According to investigators,
Price was armed with a handgun and got into an altercation with the
man who had stolen the bread.
Police say the suspect was shot in the head.
The man's name has not been released, pending notification of
next of kin.
