Miami, FL (AP) - Florida's attorney general has decided against
appealing a court ruling that overturned the state's gay adoption
Attorney General Bill McCollum waited until Friday, the deadline
to announce he would not ask the Florida Supreme Court to review
the ruling by the 3rd District Court of Appeal in Miami.
His decision comes after his client, the state's Department of
Children and Families, earlier decided against an appeal and agreed
not to enforce the law.
The appeal court affirmed a trial judge who found the state had
no rational basis for discriminating against a gay man, Martin
Gill, and his partner, who want to adopt two young brothers.
Florida is the only state with such a ban, according to court
