MIAMI (AP) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott has approved the release of
$35 million in state funding for Miami-Dade's public hospitals.
The money had been approved by the Legislature last year, but
the governor's office had said Jackson executives didn't
sufficiently meet a requirement to offer plans on how to make the
hospital system more efficient.
Scott said Friday that he was withdrawing his objections.
The money is desperately needed; the hospital system is
projected to lose $103 million this fiscal year. A treasurer for
the system's governing body said it would be in a severe crunch
through July without the money.
