Press Release: The Midway Police Department
The Midway Police Department placed 3rd in the state’s Law Enforcement Challenge developed by the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) program.
The Florida Law Enforcement Liaison program is a grant funded program sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge rewards the best overall traffic safety programs in Florida. The areas of concentration included efforts to enforce laws and educate the public about occupant protection, impaired driving, speeding and other areas of traffic safety.
The Midway Police Department was selected as a finalist and members of the command staff traveled to Orlando this past weekend for the awards ceremony.
Although placed in a category with larger agencies, the Midway Police Department still managed to compete and place 3rd in the competition bringing home a $10,000 prize.
Interim Police Chief Jerome Turner says, “The Midway Police Department may be small in size but our initiative, dedication and pledge to our community is as large as any other agency.” The Midway Police Department wants to remind citizens to “Help Us, Help You”.
