Midway, FL -- May 4, 2012 --

The Midway Police Department shut down back in July of 2011. When City Manager Auburn Ford took office back in October, he made it his mission to put the Midway Police Department back together.

"It was very important to make this a priority one of mine and this council to make sure that we had a top notch law enforcement agency," said Ford.

Seventeen members strong, the department has been operating since October. Friday was the official dedication ceremony.

City officials say they are proud of the success they are seeing so far. The department just received three new patrol cars.

"We're getting equipment monthly, and uh, this police department is up full force, and running," said Captain Tom Murray.

"I think they have made great strides in the progress they have made. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback from our police department. They are very, what the chief has done is very impressive," said Ford.

The ceremony ended with an official badge pinning. Then it was back to work.

If any of you attended the ceremony. There is a white and Hispanic officer that were sworn in along with the other black officers. I'm proud of the new department. They are doing a lot with their limited resources. I love the way their new young Lieutenant thinks. He has a very broad and strategic view of how the department will be ran. I believe he worked down south briefly and worked under Chief McNeil with DOC. good luck Chief Lindsey, Captain, and Lieutenant Turner. Keep up the amazing work you are doing and will do. As a resident I'm proud to see you guys on a positive path.

Let's give the new cops a chance. Don't rag them until we can prove what we say. Why do we have so many Negative people?

Check out the corner of MLK and Palmer. Drug dealers out there all day every day. Cops just drive by and not say a word

I actually seen an officer today out on foot talking with some of the guys loitering on that corner. When i came back about 15 minutes later the guys were gone off the corner and so was the officer. So i guess if you have an issue go and complain to the police department not on this forum. Police work is community based. Any department is only as strong as their community allows them to be. Just a word of thought.

I take offense to that. Sounds like someone is trying to pull the racist card.

This city is just horrible and the Police Department continues to be a joke! I think the entire City should lose their charter and return to operating as a town and not a city. Nothing good is going to ever happen in Midway with the leadership that is there now. Ugh! This is not news worthy at all!!

Lt. Murray is so old look at him, didn't he leave Quincy Police! He needs to retire. Auburn is a crook, check why he left the state years ago and Midway got him as a city manager, is he stealing from the city or moonlighting on another job while milking the city's timeclock? I'm glad we have our police department back so we don't have to wait on Gadsden County but the old police officers and it's Chief -Mr. Williams- did a fine job, the ones we have now don't do enough, if I want to break in, speed or sell drugs, I'll just do it at night cause Midway Police don't work late, I never see them.
