UPDATED 10.27.2010 12:30pm by Julie Montanaro

Fire destroys a Leon County home despite residents' efforts to put that fire out with a garden hose.

It happened on Whippoorwill Drive after sundown Tuesday and the damage is even more apparent in the daylight.

Michelle Fulcher and her son are sifting through what's left of their home this morning, trying to salvage what they can.

Fulcher says her parents were home alone last night when she says her father heard a noise in the back yard and when he went to investigate, discovered the back of his home was on fire.

She says he and a neighbor tried to put the fire out with hoses but eventually had to put them down and watch the home burn.

Fulcher says the Red Cross has been able to help them with the basics... and friends have offered them a place to stay. Fulcher says they are devastated but grateful that they are alive.

Tallahassee, Florida -- Last night around 8:30, Tallahassee Fire Department was called to the 3300 Block of Whippoorwill Drive to a mobile home fire. The residents reported hearing a noise that alerted them to the fire and called 911. The home was a total loss and the American Red Cross was called to assist the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
