DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (AP) --
The girlfriend of a sex offender tried to hide her young children from police by placing them on a ledge four feet below an apartment window.
Daytona Beach Shores police arrived at the apartment late
Wednesday after an anonymous caller said 20-year-old Philip Heidt,
a registered sex offender, had children in his apartment.
Officers say 24-year-old Deeanna Murray was inside the bathroom,
attempting to hide her 2-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.
Heidt is not allowed to be around children under age 18.
According to a police affidavit, the little boy told officers,
"Mommy held me out the window. I was bad."
Murray and Heidt face child abuse charges, and Heidt is also
charged with violating his probation. The Department of Children
and Families took custody of the children.
