More than $15 Million in Debby Disaster Aid Approved

TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- July 21, 2012

More than $15 million in state and federal disaster aid is headed for Florida victims of Tropical Storm Debby.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday said that's how much assistance has been approved for nearly 10,000 survivors since it struck Florida a month ago.

Additional aid has been provided by the Small Business Administration and private agencies such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Government aid includes $12.3 million in FEMA housing grants for short-term rental assistance, home repairs and replacement costs and $1.6 million to cover other needs such as medical expenses and lost personal possessions.

The SBA has approved $1.4 million in loans to repair homes and replace personal property.

Eight deaths were attributed to the storm that swept across the state in June.
