Tallahassee, Florida- August 20, 2012
Today, August 20th marked the first day of school for kids in Leon County.
Many of them were greeted by new faces. Especially those students at Chiles, Leon and Rickards High Schools who were welcomed back by new principals.
Their former principals were moved to new administrative positions with district in July as part of the School District's restructuring.
We caught up Lawton Chiles High Schools' new principal and talked to him about his expectations for this year.
"Well, to just do the best they can. To make sure we are continuing the excellence for what's been established here by Ms. Ortega and Dr. Cox, hoping to continue that legacy and hoping these students will push that bar even higher," says Joe Burgess principal at Chiles High School.
Burgess met with parents earlier in the day. He replaces Cox, Ph.D. Cox had served as principal at Chiles for 9 years. Cox joins former Leon High Principal Rocky Hanna and former Rickards High School principal Michelle Gayle who have taken positions at the district level.
