Telemedicine is a way to bring doctors closer to their patients, especially since there is a primary care physician shortage in Florida.
Today healthcare officials were looking to resolve that shortage.
Right now, there is no legislation on how it is provided or funded, therefore many insurance companies, including Medicaid, will not reimburse services provided.
Lauren Faison, administrator at Tallahassee Medical Healthcare, explains the importance of this technology.
"It really takes healthcare to where people are, rather than expecting people to go to where healthcare providers are," she says. "Which is particularly important for specialty care or for people who live in rural communities who can't get general primary care."
So if you have an iPad...use Skype or FaceTime, you can connect with your doctor from home.
