Sanford, Florida -July 12, 2012-
A new report shows at least one investigator believes George Zimmerman is not a racist.
Zimmerman shot and killed Sanford teen Treyvon Martin in February. He says he did so in self-defense.
With Martin being black, it sparked debate that Zimmerman had killed Martin because of his race. But new documents released dispute that.
A Sanford Investigator told the FBI he believes Zimmerman acted because of what Martin was wearing and the previous burglaries in the neighborhood, not because of the color of Martin's skin.
"I think race was a factor. I really do believe that. I believe he(Zimmerman) may have been concerned about him(Martin) being young with that hoodie on. But I think race is a factor and I want to know exactly how that guy came up with this conclusion," says Tallahassee resident Lisa Spikes.
"People are too quick to come to judgment. The facts didn't come out immediately and within a day or two people had already been polarized on one side or the other. I think it's only fair to allow time for all the information to come out rather than to have a debate that's polarized," says resident Lynn Garner.
Zimmerman was released last week on $1 million dollars bond.
