Tallahassee, FL - Crews continue repairs on Blair Stone Road, just north of Orange Avenue, following a partial collapse of the roadway’s northbound lanes after a water main ruptured yesterday afternoon. Crews expect one northbound lane to reopen this evening by approximately 7 p.m. That one northbound lane will then remain open overnight and through tomorrow morning’s commute hour, but will then close again at 9 a.m. Wednesday so crews can resume repair work. At that time, northbound traffic on Blair Stone Road will again be detoured at Orange Avenue. As a reminder, southbound traffic on Blair Stone Road is not affected by the repair work.

Tallahassee, FL - This afternoon, a water main break occurred in the northbound lanes of Blair Stone Road, just north of the intersection with Orange Avenue. Crews from the City's Underground Utilities continue repair work, and the new pipe should be installed overnight.

However, the ruptured water main caused significant damage to the roadway. Repairs to the road will begin early Tuesday morning, but may take several days to complete. As such, both northbound lanes of Blair Stone Road are closed to all traffic at Orange Avenue. Tallahassee Police and temporary signage will direct traffic to detour routes. Motorists should be prepared for delays at the intersection or use alternate routes if possible, particularly during the morning commute. Southbound lanes on Blair Stone Road remain open to traffic.

The approximately 300 customers on Kay Avenue affected by the resulting water outage following the main break should have water service restored once the new pipe installation is completed overnight. However, the precautionary Boil Water Notice for these customers will remain in effect until the City's Water Quality Laboratory can test samples from the area, per Florida Department of Environmental Protection regulations. The City anticipates lifting the Boil Water Notice on Wednesday morning, March 16, and will issue a News Release indicating the notice has been lifted. Water customers with any questions may contact the Water Quality Division at 891-1200.
