HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) --

A special-needs child is hospitalized after police found him clinging to life in a filthy motel room.

Hialeah police say they found the 2 1/2-year-old boy after his
mother called 911 Saturday afternoon. They say the boy was
suffering from severe dehydration and weighed just 15 pounds. He
was surrounded by garbage, feces, soiled diapers, rotten formula
and a dead cat.

His parents, 21-year-old Savanah Sholter and 25-year-old Vincent
Collins, were arrested on child neglect charges. The child was
taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police say the parents were living in one room with a 1-year-old
while the special-needs boy stayed alone in the dirty room next
door.

The parents are being held on a $7,500 bond.

If you look on her facebook page and keep going down, you will find an album with her childrens pics. so skinny and tiny. i feel so bad for them. she's on drugs and has high anxiety and anger issues. you can read it all on her facebook. her 'about me' made me angry considering the circumstances.

If these sorry excuse for parents did NOT want this child....WHY didn't they just drop him off at a Fire Station... At least he would have a chance at life, rather than fighting for his LIFE!

These two are simply a disgrace to the world....even if we don't know all the facts the point is these to idiots left a disabled child alone in the worst predicament ever but yet and still had enough money to purchase another room and take care of another child in the same room as them so honestly there is no excuse. i pray that God has mercy on their soul and blesses this child with continuous life.

i can see where everyone is coming from but my personal opinion is if they are mentally stabile enought to take care of themselves and the 1yr old and on top of that call 911 b/c they realize something is wrong with the 2yr old they are capable of seeking help for this child b4 he reached this point. God says vengence is mine & i know when God gets you hewill get you in a way you will not forget easily. I send a prayer out for the child that hey Lord will send his angels around this child to keep him safe and painfree until his will be done. lets all com inagreeance and send a prayer up for this child lets allow God's will be done inthe body of this child. God hears each of us individually but if we come together the Lord says when 2 or more touch ang agree it will be done. Dont leave me out here alone for the life and health of this child pray with me. the parents are left to the Lord! Judgement is his!

LydYa , You are comparing rulings from judges in different states, with different laws and different procedures, and you are shocked that there are differences in the rulings? I don't agree with the $7500 figure either, but comparing apples and oranges proves nothing.

I read an article about a mother in Connecticut being charged for putting her son in a "kennel" because he was messing up his bed at night. She had a $100,000 bail. Not that he was living in filth, just that she was locking him in the kennel. These people were caring for another child and the article doesn't say that child was living in filth nor that the parents were living in filth. So, I don't think they were too "mentally handicapped". They knew enough to take care of themselves. $7,500????? That is ridiculous and the judge who set that amount should be ASHAMED of him/herself!!!!!!!

I wish I hadn't read this article. You are so right Shaner and Holy Smoke. They surely don't have $7500, and no one will bail them out, so they'll have to stay in jail. Someone should have notified authorities way before the "mother" called 911.
