PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Police say human remains have been found in a wooded area of Panama City Beach.

Crime scene units taped off about an acre on Tuesday after crews clearing a vacant lot called police after spotting what appeared to be a human skeleton.

Panama City Beach Police Chief Drew Whitman said they found no evidence of foul play. But he added that the amount of undergrowth and decomposition made it difficult to determine a cause of death a timeline or even the gender. He says clothes removed from the area were also too deteriorated to give significant clues.

Residents of a nearby neighborhood told police they've not see anyone in the area.

Crews were continuing to clear the area late Tuesday so police could process the scene.
