The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says 83-year old Joseph H. Boggs died Saturday afternoon in Shell Point while on a fishing trip. They say Boggs was from Griffin, GA and had come to Shell Point for the weekend to go fishing with his 80-year old friend who owns a home in Shell Point.
They say sometime Saturday afternoon, the two were out fishing in Shell Point and Boggs got sick while on the boat and fell over into the water. The water was about three feet they say. His 80-year old friend was able to get him back into the boat, and attempted to save him. But,by the time emergency crews got out there, Boggs had died. They say Boggs had diabetes and had several prior heart surgeries.
The autopsy was done this morning and it's still unclear whether or not Boggs died from natural causes or if he drowned. FWC is not classifying this as a drowning as of now and they're still investigating.
