August 14th is Primary Day in Florida and there are a lot of local seats to be decided in our area. We begin our coverage with the Tallahassee City Commission Seat Two race.

There are two seats up for grabs in the Tallahassee City Commission. Currently, Seat Two is held by incumbent Andrew Gillum.

We start with Gillum who is seeking a third term after being elected almost 10 years ago at age 23, the youngest ever to be elected to the city commission. Gillum led the candidates in raising the most money for his campaign.

His three opponents are political newcomers. Jacob Eaton you may remember was involved in a controversial scuffle in February when he was charged with a felony after an altercation with Leon County Democratic Party Treasurer Bob Henderson. The felony charge was later dropped. Eaton has been very vocal about calling for Tallahassee Mayor John Marks to resign.

Nick Halley has lived in Tallahassee since high school. He has said that there is too much complacency in the city commission and would like to see government do better with businesses and jobs.

Finally, David "Bubba" Riddle has been a vocal opponent of some of the city commission's policies. He brings 20 years of experience with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Gillum is hosting a watch party at the Mint Lounge at 7pm and Halley will be at Tally's Grille at 6:30pm for a watch party. If one of the candidates earns 50 percent of the vote, they win the seat, if not, the general election on November 6th will serve as a runoff for the top two vote getters.
