Tallahassee, FL -- March 27, 2012 --
TallahasseeVoices is a pro bono internet survey panel sponsored by Kerr & Downs Research with special media support of WCTV. Survey was conducted February 4th to 25th, 2011. 402 of the 5,000 panel members responded. Results are weighted to reflect the demographics of the 90%+ local residents who have access to the internet at home, work, or school.
Leon County residents have significantly different views of the job performance of the presidents of the area’s two major universities:
54% of residents give FSU President Barron excellent or good ratings
19% of residents give FAMU President Ammons excellent or good ratings.
Surprisingly, 31% of residents say they lack information to rate President Barron, yet only 19% say they lack information to rate President Ammons.
TallahasseeVoices founder, Phillip Downs, Ph.D., contends that "Media coverage of FAMU has been focused more on negative issues, while coverage of FSU has been more positive. Since few people have direct involvement in both universities, media influence drives perceptions of the two universities and their presidents."
