JCSO Release:

On 12-05-2010, at 1:46 P.M., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Cato’s Department Store, located at 4902 Malloy Plaza Marianna, Florida, advising that they had just been robbed.

The victim stated a tall white male, approximately 50 to 60 years old, medium build, wearing a blue and white plaid shirt and blue jeans, came up to the register area and told her, “This is a robbery, I need your money”. She also stated he told her he had a gun in his pocket, but he never displayed it.

The victim stated he spoke in a calm, low tone and also produced a note that stated, “This is a robbery”. She stated she told the assailant that she could not just open the register without the manager and asked him if she could call the manager over to open the register.

She stated his response was, “No”. He then picked up a hand lotion and body wash gift set for her to ring up to open the register. She stated she complied and took an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency out of the cash register and gave it to him.

She stated he turned and walked out of the store and turned west and continued walking down the sidewalk in front of the store until he was out of sight.

A further description was obtained adding he was unshaven and appeared to be homeless. A witness in the area stated he had seen a subject meeting the description walking into a wooded area north west of Lowe’s during the last couple of days.

K-9 units from A.C.I. and J.C.I. were contacted for assistance. Upon arrival of the K-9 units, a track was worked from north west of the shopping center into the woods. The K-9 units tracked a subject south of the railroad tracks that proceeded north of the railroad tracks, and continued to move northwest between the railroad tracks and Spring Creek. The track was eventually lost in the area of the creek and it is unknown which direction he traveled from there.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 482-9648 or Crimestoppers at (850) 526-5000.
