[UPDATE] Arrest Made in Envision Credit Union Robbery

[UPDATE] 3-11 10:47am --

LCSO Release:

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011 the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a bank robbery at the Envision Credit Union located at 440 North Monroe Street. When they arrived, deputies learned that a black male walked into the credit union just after 10:00 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money. The teller complied and the man left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Surveillance photographs were disseminated to the public and to other law enforcement personnel. As a result, numerous calls were made to area law enforcement advising that the man in the photographs was 51 year old Alonzo Hill. Detectives responded to Hill's residence in the 700 block of West 6th Avenue and set up surveillance. Minutes later, they observed Hill place a pair of jeans, like those worn by the suspect, in a trashcan near his residence. A search warrant was obtained and served at the residence. During the search, detectives located other clothing worn during the robbery and the bank bag from the credit union.

Detectives are comparing information in this case with other area law enforcement and this investigation is continuing. Additional charges are likely. Hill was taken to the Leon County Jail.

[UPDATE] 6:08pm by Lanetra Bennett

A man gets away after robbing a credit union on busy North Monroe Street in Tallahassee.

A sign is on the door; but, with all the law enforcement agents around and the K-9 rushing down the street, credit union customer Julie Gay knew this wasn't everyday security.

Gay said, "I just saw all the cops and I didn't know what was going on. I was like, okay, something just happened, let me get my money and get out of here."

That's just what detectives say a man did--got the money and got out of there.

Leon County Sheriff's deputies say a man came into the Envision Credit Union at 440 North Monroe Street around 10:12 Thursday morning.

DET Melinda McBride with the Leon County Sheriff's Office said, "He approached the teller and handed a note demanding money. He left the bank the same way and left on foot."

The suspect is described as a black man about five-feet, eight-inches tall, wearing a black leather jacket with a blue sweatshirt hoodie underneath, a baseball cap, and jeans.

Deputies have not determined if he had a weapon.

"This gentleman left out on foot. Someone probably saw him." Said, DET McBride.

The Tallahassee Police Department alone worked 13 bank and credit union robberies between January and the end of September of last year.

Figures from the Leon County Sheriff's Office were not available at the time of this story.

Gay said, "I know all the other ones around town have been, but I'm surprised Envision got robbed."

Detectives say they are investigating to see if there are any links to any unsolved robberies in the city and county.

Deputies say there were customers at Envision Credit Union at the time of the robbery, but no one was hurt.

Anyone with any information on the identity and/or the whereabouts of the Envision Credit Union suspect is urged to call the Leon County Sheriff's Office at 850-922-3300.
