Machine guns and infrared technology will have a place at the upcoming Republican National Convention. We're hearing new details about the tight security being set up as more names are added to the list of speakers.
Florida Governor Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Governor Jeb Bush are among the list of several big political names scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention at the end of the month.
To protect them and the rest of the crowd, security preparations on the federal and local level are already underway. At the end of the month. The RNC will be in downtown Tampa, right on the city's waterfront.
Law enforcment agencies plan to saturate the waterway with armed boat patrols. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says they'll even have automatic machine guns and infrared technology that can pick up body heat mounted on those boats. A spokeswoman for the US Coast Guard says Marine units are prepared for everything that could possibly happen.

Police there say anyone swimming or paddling in security zones will be detained and probably arrested. Recreational boaters should expect security checkpoints and channel closures throughout the convention.

The convention will be in downtown Tampa this month from the 27th through the 30th.
