MIAMI -- June 10, 2012

A security guard has been arrested after police say he shot two men outside a club, killing one of the victims.

Lukace Shane Kendle was charged Friday with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the June 1st shootings.

Police said the 26-year-old shot the two men because he felt threatened.

Kendle told police he was working at the club when he saw Michael Smathers and Kijuan Byrd parked in a truck rolling marijuana cigarettes.

According to an arrest warrant, he heard someone shouting and saw Smathers jump out of the vehicle. That's when Kendle allegedly shot Smathers about four times and then fired at Byrd while Byrd was hiding under the truck. He died at the hospital. Authorities said he was shot 11 times. Smathers is in critical condition.

security companies don't pay enough money for armed security officer to there life line. $8.00 you can't eat off that. this had working officer put his life on the line now he in jail.if you haven't worked as a security officer you don't understand threats that we go through on the daily basses.so every time someone threat you, you can take it lightly. trust is me people threat your life all the time.so please stand up for security officer because we put our life's on the line just well as cops do. for people, property and what have you.

There are people who have poor logic / judgement. Sounds like he was playing tough guy more than "feeling threatened." Simply seeing that this man had a gun would likely have been enough to eliminate any threat as these two men probably would have backed off, of course, unless they had guns too which isn't mentioned. How can a grown man, security guard, armed with a gun, feel threatened by someone hiding from him under a truck? Sounds like someone trying to show his macho side cause he can and he had a gun.

Blame the "budget" security companies in our area. They pay 8.00 an hour for a guy to carry a gun. The state licensing is a joke. To be an armed officer, you should have to have been a former LEO, corrections, or M.P. These security companies pay nothing and hire people that shouldn't even own a gun. Add to this the comment from the former poster about wannabe cops....Pay the officers a decent wage, do better background checks, and tighten state requirements for security officers. Maybe stuff like this won't happen

How is changing a gun law going to keep this from happening. Don't be stupid. If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

This why these companies should hire only experience people to work on Armed post, ie Military, retired police etc. This guy was probably scared, but bis job as a Security Officer is to observe and report. If after observation he saw something wrong he should have backed up and called the police. Then if they pursuers him then "Stand your ground" would kick in. So some people need more training.

I agree with what you are saying but people with experience cost more $$$$. That is the bottom line for most of these businesses.

These gun laws really need to be reviewed because it give crazy people the right to shot for no apparent reason. If this is the case to this story than its very sad what this want-to-be cop did to these men.How in the hell did you feel threaten.??

This guy was a security guard and falls under a different set of rules than people with a concealed weapons permit. Plus, until you read the actual statute as well as section 3 of it that covers syg, don't spout of opinions about it because 95% of what the drive by media echos is WRONG.

Obviously, he has been arrested for murder so your argument is moot anyway.
