At 8:46 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 a semi making a turn
brushed a traffic light pole. The pole broke at the base and
the horizontal arm with the traffic control lights fell on the top
of the trailer. The lights were still energized and the truck
could not be moved safely until the support structure was
lifted off the vehicle. Madison Police personnel directed traffic
at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 (Base Street) and North
Duval for a little over three hours waiting on equipment to clear
the the downed pole and lights. Madison County Sheriff's Office
and the Florida Highway Patrol also worked at the scene. No
injuries were reported.
