PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) -- Work on a portion of a maritime park
along Pensacola Bay has been halted after workers discovered an old
shipwreck of possible historic value.
Several ships have been found in the development of the project.
The ship of primary interest is believed to be from the 1850s.
A chairman of the board involved in the project says the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers asked that they stop working when the ship
was found. The board agreed.
Graduate students from the University of West Florida will begin
examining the shipwreck early next week. It is not expected to
affect the deadline of the park's completion.
