The annual Sickle-cell Holiday party held at the law offices of Parks and Crump was packed with excitement, good food and a surprise visit from Santa Clause himself.

Every family invited is affected by Sickle Cell, But there were no talks of the rough times or hospital visits, instead caroling, opening presents and counting blessings.

Dexter Martian, Sickle Cell Foundation Board Member says, "I have a 10 year old son with Sickle Cell Anemia that just got out of the hospital 2 weeks ago and received his 26th blood transfusion. It something we have to go through as parents to try and keep the kids strong and try to just hold the family together."

In the United States, about 1 in 500 black births have sickle-cell anemia.
