Jacksonville Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A soldier from Florida has died in Afghanistan after insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire.

The Department of Defense announced Saturday that Pfc. Jonathan Villanueva was fatally injured Wednesday in Wardak province. The 19-year-old is from Jacksonville.

Villanueva was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.

    America is still at war and our young continue to serve. I can't help but wonder why so many seem unaware that we have so many brave men and women in harms way.

    My condolences to his family and friends. So young and giving his life for our country. He was just a kid.
